Mission

Symphony for a Child is a non-profit organization dedicated to help treat and care for children suffering with Cancer, HIV Aids, Deaf & Blindness in Sri lanka.  Some of the projects helped by Symphony for a Child are:

The sponsoring of a village school boy at the age of 13 from Weerawila, Tissamaharama named               Namal Sanjeeva Yapage who gained a First Class BSc Honours  in Civil Engineering at University of Engineering in Katubedde in 2009, who then went to win a Scholarship to University of Western Sydney, where in 2013 he achieved a PhD in Civil Engineering, winning two 'Special Awards'. The first being, the 'Australian Geomechanics Award 2013' and the second for 'Highly Commended Technical Paper among NSW Universities'.

The opening by the former Health Minister Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva in December 2009 of Ward-2 at IDH Hospital in Gothatuwa, Angoda, Sri Lanka for the treatment of children with HIV and other serious illnesses. The unit provides specialist in-patient care for 40 children.

In 2011 the proceeds supported Vaazhzhzm, the school for children with visual impairment in Jaffna. Vaazhzhzm is situated in Chunnakam and was founded by the late Ms. Annaluxmi Sinnathamby. The Institute has 40 children, of whom a majority have been born sightless and some who have lost their sight during the years of conflict.

In 2014 the proceeds supported HIV Aids Fiundation Sri Lanka, Children's Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, Wards 2A & B of Infectious Diseases Hospital, Rajagiriya and other children's charities.

Current fund raising initiatives are to provide ongoing treatment and support for these children and  other children's charities that otherwise might not receive care.

Goal

To provide continued treatment and support for these children through donations and sponsorship of a child. Our hope is that we can reach this goal through full or partial sponsorship and one time donations.

Founder

The idea and funding for "Symphony for a Child" stemmed from annual charity concerts held in London featuring an eclectic mix of talented musicians organized by Sirima Jayasekera a former concert pianist and music teacher.  Sirima Jayasekera's determined fundraising efforts have changed the lives of many young children, especially those from very poor families who would otherwise not be able to obtain specialist treatments they require. Sirima Jayasekera has developed a personal connection with many of the children she has been able to help since the charity was founded in 1998. In recent years she has also organised concerts in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
